MEET THE MAYOR

Mayor Welch

Mayor Dwight Welch

Mayor Dwight Welch has been the Mayor of Country Club Hills for over almost 20 years.  Throughout that time, he has worked diligently to promote economic development in Country Club Hills, "The Crossroads of Opportunity".

The Mayor also handles the following:

  • Maximizes participation in the policy-making and deliberative functions of the City Council.
  • Fosters communication with and amongst residents through many avenues of communication, such as open meetings, a city newsletter, and video productions of City Council meetings.
  • Facilitates communication between the legislative and administrative branches of city government.
  • Serves as a liaison between the City of Country Club Hills and the regional associations of municipal governments.

The Mayor has also implemented many Boards and Commissions in order to assist the City Council and Staff  with the handling of City business.  Residents of the community hold these voluntary positions; the following is a list of Boards and Commissions:

  • Blood and Organ Donor Commission - organizes several blood drives annually in cooperation with a professional blood service. This commission ensures that blood is available for all residents. Organ donation is also promoted.
  • Economic Development Commission - conducts business attraction and retention activities.  Reviews development plans for aesthetic and economic development activities.
  • Emergency Services Disaster Agency (ESDA) - provides volunteer assistance to the Police Department at athletic events, fests and assists with ordinance enforcement.
  • Environmental Commission - provides educational programs and materials to support recycling, reviews development plans for environmental impact, supports environmentally sound planning.
  • Housing Authority - administers a housing acquisitions program and promotes fair housing throughout the City.
  • Plan Commission - develops the comprehensive plan and land use map for the City, reviews all land use decisions in light of that plan and reviews all development plans.
  • Public Access Cable Commission - provides training in handling cable television equipment.  Records and broadcasts local events, City Council meetings and assorted programs.
  • Zoning Board of Appeals- develops the Zoning Ordinance for the City and reviews all requests for zoning variances. Reviews all development plans.
  • Electrical Commission - twice a year when called at 7:30 p.m. in City Hall. They review all codes regarding electrical issues and make recommendations for updated or new code implementation.
  • Senior Citizen Commission - meets on the second Tuesday of every month at 10:00 in City Hall. They offer senior citizens a forum for information regarding their health and welfare while living in Country Club Hills.
  • Youth Commission - meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in City Hall. They provide programs and guidance for the youth in the City.
  • Angels of Country Club Hills - provide assistance in emergency situations, particularly when the City opens City Hall and the Police Station as Warming / Cooling Shelters.

All meetings are open to the public, and the City encourages residents to attend. Additionally, every resident in Country Club Hills can participate by volunteering on one of the Boards or Commissions.

If you are interested in serving on one of these commissions, please contact the Mayor’s Office at (708) 798-2616 or via email at  dwightwelch@countryclubhills.org
