IMPORTANT SAFETY TIPS
At Home
- Never open your door automatically. Install and use peepholes.
- Never let a stranger in your home.
- Never let anyone in your home you don’t know or are not expecting. If someone comes to your door claiming to be from a utility company, ask them for proof or ID.
- Be careful of repairmen that come to your house unexpected claiming you need your roof repaired, driveway seal coated etc. If you notice something that needs repair call a repairman based on recommendations of family or friends.
- Never hide your door key under the doormat or in a place that is likely to be found.
Deterring Con Games and Consumer Fraud
If it sounds too good to be true – free vacation, prizes, gifts – it probably is.
- If you receive a telephone call from someone saying you’ve won a prize and asking for payment for processing or administrative fees, taxes, or any other reason, it’s probably a scam.
- Never give out credit card or personal information such as your Social Security number on the telephone, unless you specifically called the company.
- Con artists pose as representatives of companies or government agencies to get personal information from seniors.
- Never allow yourself to be drawn into a conversation with an unknown caller in which you reveal your name, address, marital status or anything to indicate you are alone.
If you suspect any suspicious activity, call the Police Department immediately. Don’t hesitate to report crime or suspicious activities.
